Group exhibition ‘The Power of Art’ underway at Gallery-9

The group exhibition 'The Power of Art' is underway at the newly launched Gallery-9 at Bir Uttam Rafiqul Islam Avenue, Dhaka. Curated and organised by artist Gazi M Rahman and supported by International Republican Institute (IRI), the exhibition showcases the works of fifteen young artists across the country.

An art camp titled, 'The Power of Art', was launched in Savar by Gazi M Rahman in September. As a result, fifteen talented young artists were selected to showcase their work at the exhibition. Renowned artist and cartoonist Shishir Bhattacharjee and artist Mostafizul Haque, Professor, Department of Drawing and Painting, Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, were present at the two-day art camp, and two of their paintings are exhibited as well.

"Our mission was to portray how art and artists are vital in a society and how they can contribute to us through the language of art," shares Gazi M Rahman. "We selected fifteen talented artists based on their performances at the art camp."

Sadek Ahmed, Md Mahabub Rahman Khan, Najmun Nahar Keya, Khandakar Nasir Ahammed, Soma Surovi Jannat, Promotesh Das, Gazi Mosaddaqur Rahman, Md Abdul Momen Milton, Fahmida Khatun, Rezaul Hoque, Golam Faruque Sarkar, Farzana Ahmed Urmi, Imtiaj Islam Rasel, Tanzil Hasnain Moin Roneet and Hossain Mohammed Farook are showcasing their works at the exhibition.

The event was inaugurated by the chief guest, Earl R Miller, US Ambassador to the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Earl R Miller, Geoffrey Macdonald, Country Director of Bangladesh, IRI Global and Gazi M Rahman gave their opening remarks at the inauguration ceremony, followed by a dance performance."What this pandemic has taught us is how we have come together as one community, to address this global challenge," shared Earl R Miller, while taking a moment to mourn the loss of lives, due to the pandemic. "Art is a universal power, it's a universal language and it is one of the crucial ways we communicate with each other across borders."

"Our primary concern is to maintain the safety and social distancing guidelines during the exhibition and we are strictly adhering to the rules," added Gazi M Rahman.

The exhibition is open for all till December 5, from 11 am to 8 pm every day. To maintain proper health safety guidelines, all visitors must wear masks at all times. Only 10 people at a time are allowed inside the venue.
