Government to allot BDT 1000 crore for film industry development

A fund of BDT 1000 crore is to be allotted for the development of the film industry, according to Minister of Information, Dr Hasan Mahmud.

A meeting was held today (October 4) in this regard, in the conference room of the Ministry of Information. Directors, producers, researchers and governing authorities attended the meeting.

As per their discussion, long and short-term loans with reduced interest rates will be provided to cinema hall owners. With the new inflow of money, they can now reopen, modify and restructure movie theatres.

"We hope to see a change in the film industry," said the Minister after the meeting. "We aim to reopen the closed cinema halls, help upgrade the existing ones and also draw investors towards this industry."

He also touched upon how the journey of our visual media started in 1959, under the support of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Under the instructions from the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Bank will be providing these loans to the stakeholders.
