Director, playwright and researcher Sajedul Awwal no more

Film director, researcher and playwright Sajedul Awwal passed away yesterday (April 15) at his residence, due to post-Covid complications.

The news was confirmed by eminent cultural personality, Nasiruddin Yousuff. 

Awwal was an integral part of Dhaka Theatre, having written their famous play, "Foni Monsha". He also researched on eminent filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak, and authored a book titled "Cholochitro Chorcha".

He directed a film titled "Chitkini", starring Runa Khan as the lead.

"I cannot take this -- one tragic news after another," says Runa Khan. "He was an extremely good person. I was supposed to do his next film as well."

Sajedul Awwal was buried at the capital's Azimpur Graveyard last night.
