A Dhaka court ordered filmmaker and anchor Debashish Biswas to be sent to jail, in a fraud case filed last year.

However, on the condition of returning the money to the person who filed the complaint, he was granted bail after some time.

Debasish signed a contract with Liton Sarkar Emon, owner of the YouTube channel PNTV, on July 30, 2019.

According to the contract, Debasish sold the ownership of four films produced by his mother, Gayetri Biswas, to the channel. The films are "Mayer Morjada", "Shubho Bibaho", "Opekkha", and "Ajante." They paid BDT 140,000 and bought the films' rights on commercial terms in 2019.

After PNTV aired the movies, they were reported by another channel. As a result, PNTV was blocked. Later, they were informed that the rights of these movies were previously given to another channel in 2017.

On September 8, 2019, Liton Sarkar Emon filed a fraud case in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate against Debashish.

Debashish confirmed that he secured bail to The Daily Star, and also stated that he was not in the lock-up. "I was at the Judge Court and I was granted bail after some time," says the artiste. "Who says I was in jail? There were some misunderstandings with the person who filed the case, but everything is sorted now."

According to the conditions given by the judge, Debashish must return the money by tomorrow (Thursday).

While Debashish applied for bail, the Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order to send him to jail.

Under the supervision of lawyer Khandokar Muhibul Hasan Apple, Debashish surrendered this afternoon and reapplied for bail, which was further approved.
