'Brick Lane '78' England tour comes to an end

Three shows of Brick Lane '78 will be held on January 20 at Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) in Birmingham, on 21 at George Wood Theatre at Goldsmiths, University of London and on 27 at Townsend Theatre in Leicester respectively.  The play is based on the racially motivated killing of a Bangladeshi garment worker named Altab Ali in East London in 1978 that turned into a movement of identity, resistance and recognition of the Bengali diaspora society in 70's Britain. This theatre production can be considered a re-examination of the diaspora community's political history and route to a statement of unity and harmony in the West that is currently in a revival instance of exclusionary practices of the xenophobic political context. The play is written by Murad Khan, directed by Sudip Chakroborthy and performed by professional, semi-professional and community actors from diverse backgrounds. It is produced by the theatre company, Purbanat CIC, and supported by Birmingham City Council, Black Country Touring, Arts Council England and The SBJ Trust.

The play premiered on February 11 2018 at MAC, Birmingham.
