Farhadul Islam, CEO, Blues Communications

Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain is set to perform at a concert called Shakti in Dhaka this February, along with world-renowned artistes, John McLaughlin, Shankar Mahadevan, Ganesh Rajagopalan and V Selvaganesh.

Blues Communications is organising the concert that will be held on February 28 at Dhaka's Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

“We are hoping to have another great event as several living legends of world music are coming to entertain the Dhaka audience,” said Farhadul Islam, the CEO of Blues Communications.

Zakir Hussain, son of tabla legend Alla Rakha, is an iconic figure in the field of percussion. With three Grammies under his belt, he has been equally prolific in the eastern classical and western jazz fusion.

John McLaughlin is an English guitarist, bandleader and composer. His music includes many genres of jazz which he couples with elements of rock, Indian classical music, Western classical music, flamenco and blues to become one of the pioneering figures in fusion.

Shankar Mahadevan is an Indian singer and composer who is part of the Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy composing trio team for Indian films.

Indian classical violin maestro Ganesh Rajagopalan (of Ganesh Kumaresh duo brothers fame) is internationally renowned performer and composer.

V Selvaganesh is an Indian percussionist working in the Carnatic tradition and one of the leading kanjira (south Indian frame drum) players of his generation.

The concert has been dedicated to the loving memory of Uppalapu Srinivas, an Indian mandolin player and composer who passed away on September 19, 2014.
