Today marks National Film Day. Every year, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) prepares for weeks to celebrate this day since 2012 and today is no different. Decorated with posters of super-hit movies for the last 5 decades, twinkling lights, and pictures of the starts of the industries, BFDC is all set to enjoy the day in full swing.

The day began with officers and staff, led by BFDC Managing Director Nuzhat Yasmin, paying homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with flowers. Famous speeches by the Father of the Nation, holding the significance of the history of our independence and his role in the whole movement, is also being broadcasted.

Movie screenings will be arranged inside BFDC in the afternoon. However, the screenings are only open to the members of BFDC as the authorities ought to avoid crowds and maintain proper social distancing and hygiene at the BFDC premises.

Events like rallies, cultural events, and discussion meetings have not been arranged this year due to the coronavirus pandemic re-entering the scenario. "Keeping the recent covid cases in mind, we will be celebrating this day in a limited manner this year," said Nuzhat Yasmin. "I hope we can soon turn back the old ways where we could enjoy such occasions to the fullest and share the joy with everyone around without having to fear a pandemic."

On this day in 1957, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proposed to form the Film Development Corporation of the then East Pakistan Provincial Council. April 3 was declared National Film Day to commemorate the day and to reflect on those involved in the film.
