BBPC selected for Tower Hamlets Council’s 18th Annual Season of Bangla Drama

British Bangladeshi Poetry Collective (BBPC) has been selected to take part in Tower Hamlets Council's 18th Annual Season of Bangla Drama. The programme will be live-streamed on November 18, from 5:15 pm.

It is the first time that a poetry group has been asked to participate in the season, which explores cross-cultural and cross-generational aspects of Bengali culture and heritage in a British context. It engages new audiences and serves as a platform for new and emerging writers and performers.

The BBPC contribution focuses on this year's festival theme, 'Coming of Age'. The team has provided an enhanced experience through movement, music and dance which help to illustrate the themes of growth, identity, personal development and transition. The programme is spoken in English and is interpreted for the deaf and hearing impaired by a BSL interpreter.

The show is in three parts, the first of which consists of poems written collaboratively by the BBPC at its regular monthly meetings. Part two is a dramatised reading by three poets of works that address the tricky issues of personal and cultural identity and progress though life. Part three uses music, movement and dance to interpret the main theme in a variety of ways. Together they present a dramatic insight into the sensations and emotions of moving through the different stages of life and across different cultures.
