Bangladeshi singers make it in the top 10 of IWS Theme Song Contest 2020

Bangladeshi musicians Pallavi Mozumder and Zahid Bashar Pankaj managed to secure their places between the top 10 front runners at the IWS Theme Song Contest 2020. The competition was organised by the International Watercolor Society (IWS) for the first time.

Both solo artistes and groups from over a hundred different countries around the world participated in the contest.

Pallavi Mozumder, a Bangladesh born Canadian resident, had submitted two songs. She claimed third and eighth place at the competition.

"I am proud that my songs have brought respect and recognition for Bangladesh on an international platform," she shared in a video message. "I want to keep writing, composing and singing songs that radiate the flavour of my culture."

Noted music director Zahid Bashar Pankaj secured the 10th place for his composition "Selfless Love". "It feels like I finally got rewarded for my hard work and dedication," he said. "This recognision is a great motivation for me."

The jury panel of the contest consisted of 32 members from different countries.  Alongside two Bangladeshi experts Swani Zubayeer and Abid Anwar, members from the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, Ecuador, Mexico, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Bolivia, Poland, Monaco, China, Japan, Turkey, Costa Rica, Philippines, Honduras, Kosovo, Albania, Indonesia, Suzanne, and Italy were present in the panel. 

The main themes of this year's submissions were love, prosperity, peace and strength. Anyone at the age of 16 and above was asked to submit a maximum of 3 songs by August 10, 2020. The songs were evaluated and scored on a total of 50 points – 30 for lyrics, 10 for singing style and 10 for the song effects.

The other winners of the competition are: Zeze Lai (first and fifth place, Destiny Bradt (second place), Toria Todorova and Jivki Stanev (fourth place), Fernendo Vidal Rojas (sixth place), Luisiena Vynokuroka (seventh place), and Caglar Nural (ninth place). All the winners will be awarded prizes in a grand event at the IWS head office, Canada, soon.
