Australian actor Megan Mitchell joins Farooki’s ‘No Land’s Man’

Australian actor Megan Mitchell is set to star in internationally acclaimed director Mostafa Sarwar Farooki’s forthcoming feature film, No Land’s Man, alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Award-winning US producer Shrihari Sathe has also boarded the film, which is currently in pre-production for an early 2020 shoot. The predominantly English-language film revolves around a tragic, strange, and at times funny journey of a South Asian man whose life becomes more complicated when he meets an Australian girl in the States.

New York-based Sathe received the producers’ award at the 2019 Independent Spirit Awards. He has projects like the US Indie film, It Felt Like Love (2013), directed by Eliza Hittman, the Palestinian drama, Screwdriver (2018), directed by Bassam Jarbawi, and the Tibetan drama, The Sweet Requiem, directed by Tenzing Sonam and Ritu Sarin, to his credit.

Mitchell, a Melbourne-based theatre actor, is making her feature debut with No Land’s Man. Siddiqui, who boarded the film earlier this year, is known for his roles in the Netflix series Sacred Games and indie films such as The Lunchbox and Manto. He is also producing alongside Sathe, Farooki, Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Anjan Chowdhury.

Farooki wrote the film with David Barker (White Sun) as a script consultant. He believes that getting Sathe on board is one of the best things that has happened to the film, while Barker has brought some much needed relevance and narrative flow into the script. “Megan is going to be refreshing in the lead role,” he adds.

No Land’s Man was selected for BIFF’s Asian Project Market in 2014, the same year that it won the APSA-MPA script development fund.
