‘Art for Dream’ concludes at British Council

The British Council, in partnership with Local Education and Economic Development Organisation (LEEDO) and Gallery Karikor, organised the three-day exhibition, ‘Art for Dream’, at their Fuller Road branch recently.

On August 31, a day-long art camp for street children was held at LEEDO’s shelter, Peace Home, at Washpur, Keraniganj. LEEDO carries the mission of rescuing children from the streets and placing them in their Peace Home, or reuniting them with their families.

Renowned artist and right activist Shahana Mojumder was the mentor of the camp. The drawings produced by the children during the camp were showcased at the exhibition. Shahana Mojumder also donated her artworks for the event. The funds raised at the exhibition were donated to LEEDO.

The inaugural ceremony of the event was held last week at LEEDO’s Peace Home. It was attended by a delegation team of British Members of Parliament, led by Anne Main, President, Conservative Friends of Bangladesh (CFOB), as well as Paul Stuart Scully, Deputy Chairperson, Conservative Party, UK, and Vice President, CFOB.

Mahfuz Ahmed, Chairman, CFOB, and Abdus Hamid, Deputy Chairman, CFOB, among others, were also a part of the delegation team.

On the closing day, an artist talk was held at the library premises of British Council, where Shahana Mojumder, child artist Jesmin Akter and Forhad Hossain, Executive Director of LEEDO, were present.

The central target of the exhibition was to allow the children to discover their talents through creativity.

It was dedicated to Farid Babu, a participant of the art camp, who passed away on September 15, 2019, due to thalassemia and epilepsy.
