A Musical Treat For Tagore Aficionados

Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan concludes today

A three-day Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan concludes today (May 24) at the main auditorium of Chhayanaut in the capital. The 34th annual conference, organised by Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Parishad, was inaugurated by Dr. Anupam Sen on the morning of May 22. The programme set off with the rendition of Bodhon Sangeet “Ekhono Ghor Bhange Na Tor”.

General Secretary and president of the organisation -- Laisa Ahmed Lisa and Dr. Sanjida Khatun, spoke while artistes performed solo and choral songs and dances. Artistes of Nrityanandan presented a group dance set on a medley of songs --“Anandadhwani Jagao Jagao”, “Amar Mukti Aloye Aloye” and “Joy Tobo Bichitra Ananda” in the session.

In the evening session of the opening day, a number of artistes from across the country rendered solo and choral songs, performed solo dances and presented recitations. The singers started out the session with the choral rendition of “Ananda Lok-e Mongolalok-e” followed by a number of solos. While several district-level artistes initially failed to entertain the audience, Abdul Wadud, Bulbul Islam, Fahmida Khatun, Shama Rahman and Shreyashi Roy and others later steered the musical flight adeptly.

Gaudiya dancer Rachel Priyanka Perris gracefully danced to Tagore song “Nrityer Taal-e Taal-e”. Noted dancer Sharmila Banerjee performed a solo piece set on the song “Eto Alo Bishwo Majhe”. Dalia Ahmed and Jayanta Roy recited Tagore poems at the event.

The session also featured rendition of solos composed by three poets -- DL Roy, Atul Prasad and Rajanikanta Sen. Singers Luva Nahid Chowdhury, Neelotpaul Sadhya, Jhuma Khandakar, Debolina Sur and others performed in the segment.

Cultural affairs secretary Dr. Ranjit Kumar Biswas spoke in the Rabirashmi section elaborating on Tagore's literary and musical creations, the bard's universal message of humanity and his eternal relevance to the lives of Bangalees.

Apart from competition and performance of songs, dance and recitation, a seminar titled “Rashtro O Dhormo: Rabindra Bhabna O Bortoman Bastobota” was held yesterday (May 23) at the venue where Abul Momen presented the keynote paper. Organisers will honour Sangeetguni Sudhin Das and naturalist Dwijen Sharma today (May 24) with Rabindrapadak. Ambidextrous litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq will speak as chief guest at today's event.
