The Conclusion to a bygone era!

With the release of 'MohakashChari', Conclusion launched themselves into a new galaxy of possibilities. The critically acclaimed rock band's songs are already resonating with the youth and they are well on their way to becoming staples of Bangladeshi rock music. The Daily Star catches up with the young band for a small chit-chat about their music, future plans and more.

For a few years, there was a time in the Bangladeshi rock music scene which many describe as “the great rock depression”. This involved the peculiar disappearance of a lot of the bands that rock enthusiasts grew up listening to for a long time, and a general lack of good new music. Thankfully, that phase ended with the arrival of bands like Owned, Poraho, Karnival, S!N and most recently, Conclusion.“We're essentially just a long, extended family of musicians trying to make good music,” says Zakir Hossain, the guitarist for the band. “We were already doing music together as a band and when Atif (Atif Imtiaz) joined as the vocalist – that's when we started believing that we could do something big.”

The band had already released their first single, Upasanghar, before Atif had joined, and were popular in the underground scene. When asked about their influences, the band unanimously credited Owned as their inspiration. “To be honest, we would be nowhere if our brothers from Owned hadn't pushed us to produce a solo album,” says Atif. “And to this day, both the bands share gears and equipment.”

Perhaps the feature that stands out is the fact that Conclusion will rarely be spotted playing covers. “One of my fondest memories with the band was during the recent Art of Rock concert, where every person in the crowd was singing along with ShajoTumi. We all had goosebumps!” says Maheyan, the bass player of the band.

Even though Conclusion has miles to go as a band, the success of their debut album MohakashChari makes evident that the rock music industry lives on once more through artistes as such. Their songs Priyo Ondhokar, Shajo Tumi, and Tiroshkar among others have made a permanent space in the playlist of rock music lovers, including mine!
