Tagore-Nazrul celebrations in Mymensingh

A cultural show titled “Tagore-Nazrul celebrations-2017” was held at Mymensingh Press Club auditorium last week.

Artistes of Udichi Shilpi Goshthi performed at the cultural show, organised by the Mymensingh Press Club as part of its annual cultural event.

The cultural show led by Joyanti Biswas Jolly, also saw performances by Poly Talukder, Shuvra Joarder, Jishutosh Talukder, Shompa Dutta, Sanghamitra Kotha, Mollica Bormon, Progha Talukder, Beli Das, Monika Das, Chhuna and Pritom Sarker.

Earlier, a discussion on the life and works of the bards was also held marking the occasion.

Professor Shahabuddin, Bengali Department of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU); Md Anamul Haque, Associate Professor of Bengali Department of Mominunnessa Govt Mohila College; Rashedul Anam, assistant director of Institute of Nazrul Studies of JKKNIU; Professor Mohammad Reazul Islam; Salim Hasan and Zia Uddin Ahmed took part in the discussion.

Press Cub secretary Md Babul Hossain delivered the welcome speech while Literary and Cultural secretary Md Aminul Islam was the anchor.

The speakers pointed out that despite a wide age gap, there was a close connection between the two bards. “Nazrul was influenced greatly during his boyhood by Tagore,” they said.

“In their writings, readers find elements of love, sorrow, affection, humanity, revolt and also the desire for a prosperous, secular society. Their writings are a great inspiration for us to fight against evil elements that stand in the way of a secular society,” they added.
