Being a rock star

Tête-à-Tête with Alif Alauddin

The acceptance of rock music was not much for Bangladeshi music lovers, especially during the 90s. And female rock singers were next to nil in our country. With time, lot of things changed, rock and metal bands sprang during the late 80s. Still, it was not really the 'taste' Bangladeshi people was looking for. Azam Khan and a number of other legendary artistes are for this revolutionary and enigmatic phase of the country.

Having female rock-inspired artistes was not a common sight in Bangladesh. But Alif Alauddin changed that view of many. She is one of the first female rock music artistes of the country. Strongly influenced by Western music, she attempted to make a difference in the music world and also for females. Today, Alif is an established singer.

She accredits her paternal uncles for the love she has grown over the years for rock music. Although she was born and brought up in a family that always embraced music, but her genre of choice is different from others in her family.

Her first music video was released in 1997 and her solo album was released around 1998. So far, she has three solo albums -- and is hopeful that her fourth will be released this year.

Although Alif is a singer, she also hosts “Music Buzz” on Ekkatur TV. She is the Deputy Director of the music department of the channel as well.
