Shironamhin release “E Raate”

Popular rock band Shironamhin has released a new song on their YouTube channel, an old but obscure number by the band only the most hardcore of fans have heard before. The song is part of the film “Amra Ekta Cinema Banabo” that has been in the making for the better part of a decade.

Titled “E Raate”, the song was released as a lyrics video, set to a collage of black and white photos of the band members in studio and performing live. The song, written and composed by the band's founder and bassist Ziaur Rahman, is strongly reminiscent both lyrically and compositionally of the old Shironamhin, despite the voice of new vocalist Sheikh Ishtiaq cutting through it. Beginning with a somber, acoustic guitar-plucked intro, the song builds up to the first chorus, followed by a gorgeous flute solo by guest musician Zubayer Reza, and guitar solo by Diat Khan brings the song full circle.

The song's initial line is reportedly taken from Ashraf Shishir, the director of “Amra Ekta cinema Banabo”, an ambitious project of a 21-hour long film. The black-and-white film produced by Impress Telefilm took about eight years to make, and will reportedly be released in eight separate installments.

The song was announced, along with parts of its lyric – “Nirghum Kichu Lamppost, Kichu Poster Buuke Raatjaga Shohore, Bhenge Jay, Kichu Soye Jay, Kichu Khhoye Jay Priyotomo Swopner Opare” – was shared by Zia on February 6, 2010 on his Facebook page, which added that along with the song by the band, Zia would produce the entire film's audio album. The band had also performed this song, albeit very few times, in concerts over a short period of time.

This is Shironamhin's second song for a film, following the title track of the 2015 historical romantic drama “Poddo Pata'r Jol”, and their fourth song with the new vocalist – after “Jadukor”, “Bohemian” and “Barud Somudro”.
