Nazrul Mela to begin at Bangla Academy

NSSP to honour Nashid Kamal, Sujit Mustafa and Fatema Tuj Zohra

Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad (NSSP) is organising a three-day Nazrul Mela at the Bangla Academy premises from October 27-29. BRAC Bank is the title sponsor of the event with support from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. 

Ferdausi Rahman, Chairman of NSSP, said that the opening day's programme has been dedicated to Abbasuddin Ahmed while the second and concluding day's programme have been dedicated to Feroza Begum and Sohrab Hossain respectively.

Kazi, granddaughters of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Ferdausi Rahman will inaugurate the Mela at 6pm in the Bangla Academy auditorium.

It will be followed by launching of a CD titled “Bhulite Parine Tai”, featuring 70

Nazrul songs recorded by Abbasuddin Ahmed.

Another album of Nazrul Sangeet originally recorded by Feroza Begum and Sohrab Hossain, have been recorded by child artistes of NSSP, which will also be launched at the fair. The singers of the album come from 61 district-level branches of NSSP, who came out as the best performers from a nationwide music competition held last year. NSSP has been awarding renowned Nazrul Sangeet artistes for outstanding contributions to music since 2003. Mr. A. Momen Choudhury, former Diplomat of Bangladesh, who helped bring Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to Bangladesh in 1972, and Selim RF Hussain along with Ferdausi Rahman will confer this years' NSSP Sammanona Padak on renowned singers – Fatema Tuz Zohra, Sujit Mustafa and Nashid Kamal.

Eminent artistes Shaheen Samad, Ferdous Ara, Yakub Ali Khan will perform solos while artistes of Shadhona will present a dance drama titled “Badol Borishon-e”, choreographed by Lubna Mairum, on the opening day.

Second day's performances will feature a group dance led by Sadia Islam Mou, recitation by Mahidul Islam, and solo songs by Sujit Mustafa, Fatema Tuj Zohra, Sumon Chowdhury, Shaheed Kabir Polash and others.

On the closing day (29 October), Munmun Ahmed's team will present a dance while Shima Islam will recite poems. Yasmin Mushtari, Rowshan Ara Shoma,

Dalia Nausheen, Ashish Kumar Sarker, Bulbul Mohlanobish, Rahat Ara Geeti and others will render solo songs.

The fair will also include discussions, poetry recitation and songs by representatives of 61 branches of the NSSP from all over Bangladesh, artistes of Dhaka branch of NSSP and artistes of several invited organisations including Nazrul Institute. The programme will be held in two sessions: 10am- 1pm and 3pm-6pm.

The fair will have book and CD stalls with participation of major scholarly publishers and labels.
