According to family members, Joe Jackson, the Jackson 5 patriarch breathed his last on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles, at the age of 89.

An authoritarian father of 11 children, the steel worker turned into one of music history's most successful managers as he created The Jackson 5, including his most famous child, King of Pop Michael Jackson, from his family. Daughter La Toya Jackson, also a pop singer, mourned her father and said she was "extremely appreciative" of him. Joe Jackson hinted his imminent demise in a tweet recently, writing, "I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see. The sun rises when the time comes and whether you like it or not the sun sets when the time comes."
