Her soul left her body

An elegy for Sabah Tani

“My soul is travelling without my body!!” she wrote on her facebook profile, nobody knows why.  Eventually her soul left the world in true sense. Renowned pop singer of the '80s and early '90s Sabah Tani was found dead in her residence on the February 19. 

Sabah Tani entered the music arena with “Neel Kham” that earned her huge popularity. Some popular numbers sung by her are “Ektu minoti rakho Mor Minoti”, “Kono Boishakhi Raate Jodi”, “Moner Du Chokh Diye Dekho”, “Bhalobasha Bohurupi” etc.

With her enchanting voice, elegant personality and modern get up, Sabah Tani drew attention of music lovers during the '80s. Having released several solo albums and performing on Bangladesh Television and stage shows, Sabah Tani went to hibernation decades back. However, she appeared as the judge in the Sylhet region selection round of the reality show Closeup-1 in its 2012 edition, and made appearances in several live music programs on television in 2016.

“She had a very loving and caring heart and always inspired the young generation,” said Khairul Babui, a comic writer and TV program producer.

“We had seen her since her childhood as both of us used t to live at Moghbazar.  Sheikh Istiaq, Sabah Tani, Maksud Jamil Mintu and I had a good time together in '80s and '90s.  She introduced a modern style of presentation in Bangla music. Everybody in the music arena liked her for her charming personality,” said Liton Adhikary Rintu, a popular lyricist who wrote few songs for her.
