Marking the 85th birth anniversary of eminent cultural personality, journalist and Tagore exponent Waheedul Haq, Chhayanaut held a musical soiree titled “Desh Ghar-er Gaan” at Rabindra Sarobar, Dhanmondi on March 16. Md. Mozaffar Hossain from Kurigram inaugurated the event while Laisa Ahmed Lisa, noted singer and Chhayanaut general secretary, delivered welcome address.

Waheedul Haq believed that it would not be possible to form a complete impression of our culture, without becoming familiar with our folk music, rooted in our tradition. Upholding this ideal, Chhayanat has been arranging this programme for the last 12 years, highlighting various forms of folk songs practised in different parts of the country.

The programme featured discussion with the performance of folk songs and dances. Eminent writer-researcher Mafidul Haque elaborated on the life and works of Wahedul Haq in his speech.

Arif Dewan with his troupe and Kanan Dewan with his troupe performed palagaan at the event. Md. Mozaffar Hossain together with Md. Afsar Ali from Gaibandha rendered solo folk songs while Ramkrishna Sarkar and his troupe Nabonagori Dhamail Sangha from Sreemangal, Maulvibazar presented Dhamail Nrityageet at the programme.
