Amitava Mukherjee performs at BNM

IGCC organises solo soiree

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) organised a musical evening by noted artiste Amitava Mukherjee from India at Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum (BNM), Shahbagh on October 22. The artiste performed a wide variety of songs at the event. 

He started off with the song “Tomar Kachhe E Bor Magi” and later presented a patriotic song “Sarthok Jonom Amar”. His repertoire included “Dhakar Dhak”, “Bhoy Ki Morone” and a santhal song. He also rendered a kavya Sangeet and a gano Sangeet, composed by Sukanta Bhatttacharya and Bishnu Dey respectively.

Two accomplished Gaudiya Nritya dancers -- Shatabdi Acharya and Rachel Priyanka Perris danced to two Gaudiya songs, rendered by Amitava Mukherjee at the event. Pallab Sanyal on tabla, Ruptana Sharma on keyboard, Shakil Mohammad Dipan on guitar, Partha Pratim Guha on octopad and Shahid on dhol accompanied the artiste. 

Amitava Mukherjee is the son of renowned music director Sunil Mukherjee and disciple of Shri Hemango Biswas. He is one of the founding directors of Gaudiya Nriya Bharati, Kolkata, a leading institute of India, engaged in research on traditional music and dance of Bengal. He is a research scholar and well-known vocalist. 

Mukherjee has directed and composed music for dance dramas, documentary films and other Bangla songs. He has released five music albums “Desh Bidesh-er Gaan”, “Anandadhwani Jagao”, “Janmabhoomi”, “Sokol Rash-er Dhara” and “Mahabishwe Mahakashe”.
