'Minions' becomes 2nd biggest animated movie ever

Leaving behind the likes of 2010 film Toy Story 3, American 3D computer-animated family comedy film Minions has become the second-highest grossing animated film of all time after Academy Award-winning 2013 film Frozen.

Co-directed by Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin, Minions minted a whopping $20.1 million on its opening day in China, thereby taking its worldwide box office to $1.08 billion, making it the 15th biggest film ever, reports ew.com.

With voice over of actors like Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm and Michael Keaton, Minions” has surpassed Toy Story 3, which earned $1.063 billion worldwide.

Frozen, directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, made $1.27 billion globally.

The film is the current record-holder for the biggest animated movie ever.
