Kirsten Dunst beading back to TV

Kirsten Dunst has been a familiar face in the acting biz for over two decades now, and it was only in 2015 that she became a regular fixture on television in the second season of Noah Hawley's “Fargo” universe. Now, before Season 3 of “Fargo” is even out, Dunst has already signed on for another TV show, the hour-long dark comedy “On Becoming a God in Central Florida”, which landed at AMC. It also boasts George Clooney as a producer.

“On Becoming a God in Central Florida” will go a bit further back into the past than “Fargo”, and Kirsten Dunst will be a recently widowed and financially desperate woman who becomes determined to find her own version of the American Dream in the early 1990s. As Krystal Gill, Dunst will play an Orlando water park employee who throws caution to the wind by conning her way to the top ranks of the company Founders American Merchandise.

Dunst will also take on executive producing duties for the show, along with Clooney and Grant Heslov. Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos has signed on to direct.

Though Kirsten Dunst only has “Fargo” as a season-long TV gig, she hasn't been a stranger to the small screen in her career. Early highlights include appearances on “Sisters” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, and she had a memorable arc on “ER” in the mid-1990s to go with her made-for-TV movie streak. Before “Fargo”, she'd most recently appeared on “Portlandia”, while her big screen career has her currently in theatres in the acclaimed drama “Hidden Figures”, and she'll soon be seen in the paranoid drama “Woodshock” and in Sofia Coppola's upcoming drama “The Beguiled”.

As these are still the early days, “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” likely has a mid-sized timeline to make it through before anything can really start coming together.
