Two decades of Moushumi

From one milestone to another

On March 25, 1993, viewers were greeted by a new, graceful presence on the big screen at the release of “Keyamat Theke Keyamat.” The film starred the late Salman Shah, joined by the fresh-faced Moushumi. Nearly two and a half decades later, Moushumi has continued to captivate audiences with her performances since her debut, garnering numerous accolades along the way including three National Film Awards.

The artiste was full of gratitude regarding her momentous journey. “I have no idea how so much time has flown past so quickly. My heart pines for my father the most today. Memories of people I met during my early days, the late heroes Salman and Manna bhai, flood to the mind. Without Chanchal Mahmood, the photographer who had given me my first exposure in front of the camera, my journey would not have been possible, as well as Rafiqur Rahman Reku. Chairman of Cassandra Limited, Shakib Lohani, Director Sohanur Rahman Sohan as well as the others through whose films I have won the National Film Awards, I am deeply indebted to them all. I would not be where I am today without the undying love and support of my parents, my two sisters, and my husband Omar Sani,” she says.

Director of “Keyamat Theke Keyamat” Sohanur Rahman Sohan says, “Moushumi is one of a kind.  I am in awe of her capacity to respect others, and her ability to mould herself into any character required for the film. This makes her incomparable and a legend in her own right.”

The artiste is currently working on Muntazur Rahman Akbar's “Dulabhai Zindabad” and AK Sohel's “Pobitro Bhalobasha”.
