Is Toma Mirza ready to change the “Game”?
A talented dancer and model, Toma Mirza has found triumph in acting, bagging the National Film Award this year. Her latest venture, “Game Returns”, is set to hit the big screen soon, which she elaborates on in a recent conversation with The Daily Star.
Could you talk about your latest movie?
Toma Mirza: “Game Returns” will be released in halls throughout the country on the silver screen on November 3. The action thriller is directed by Royal Khan, and I play a bubbly, spontaneous character in the narrative.
What would compel people to flock towards theatres and enjoy the film?
Toma Mirza: It is a highly entertaining film. In addition to an absorbing plot, the film contains exciting action sequences and wonderful songs. I don't believe viewers will find a single dull moment, and I look forward to everyone's feedback after the film's release.
Has there been any particular standout moment while shooting for this film?
Toma Mirza: There's so many to recount, because the whole film crew including the director became like family. We travelled to various spots around the country for filming, including Cox's Bazaar during the monsoon season. When it rained all day and we were unable to film, we would sit and chat with each other, or get wet in the rain. I remember the delicious food we were served, and the memories made there are definitely something I cannot recreate in Dhaka.
You've won the National Film Award this year. How else has this year been different for you?
Toma Mirza: 2017 has definitely been a milestone year for me. Four of my ventures have been released this year, which is the most I have ever done in a single year. I was also able to partake in my other passion, and do a few dance performances. I will definitely look back on this year as one of my best.
What aspirations do you have for your career?
Toma Mirza: I have been in the acting industry for seven years, and have acted in 13 films. I would like to keep doing movies regularly in the future, as well as open up a production house and make sure quality films are being made. I am also a law student right now, and hope to set up a practice once I graduate.
How do you spend your free time?
Toma Mirza: I am a huge movie buff, and often stay up watching movies from all over the world. As an actor, I love seeing other actors' work and being inspired by them. I love music as well, but not as much as film.
Who is your favourite actor?
Toma Mirza: Undoubtedly the great Nayak Raj Razzak. I have no words to describe my admiration for him and his work. Whenever we met he would call me to come over to him, and he was always full of fatherly affection. I miss him very much.
