Hridi debuts in theatre direction

Born to actor parents, actress-TV director-scriptwriter Hridi Haq has been involved with Nagorik Nattayangan for long. At the same time, she is very active in theatre. But for the first time, Hridi is set to direct a play for theatre. In a recent conversation with The Daily Star, the talented artiste talked about her current work.

Does theatre production pose a challenge?

Hridi: For me, every task is challenging. When I take up any assignment, I fully engage in it to deliver a good piece. I take my work seriously. This is my first venture in theatre direction, and I hope to give the audience a good product.

What role does theatre play in your life?

Hridi: It is a part and parcel of my life.  My emotion, sentiment and affection, everything is theatre-centric. Theatre is a big tool to pave the way for arts and culture.

Which play are you producing now?

Hridi: It's titled “Gahor Badsha O Banesa Pori”, where I also play a central role. It is the first folk play of our troupe.

How long did it take you to produce the play?

Hridi: It takes a while to build a stage play up from the ground. Around 50 people gave efforts to finish the work. We took a few months to complete the production.

What's your expectation from the audience?

Hridi: Very high expectations, because folk tales narrate the lyrics of hearts. I hope everyone will receive “Gahor Badsha O Banesa Pori” warmly.

When did you first start thinking about directing a play?

Hridi: Since I started working on stage. I believe I will continue my foray into this realm.
