Celebrated television director Chayanika Chowdhury has been part of the showbiz arena for eighteen years. In the span of her career, she has directed more than 350 television projects. Her directorial endeavours by far have been well received by the audience and critics alike, and it seems like her passion for her craft keeps growing. The artiste gets candid about her greatest achievements, career aspirations and more in a recent conversation with The Daily Star.

What have been the greatest achievements of your career so far?

Chayanika: Having been part of the industry for so long, I think my greatest achievement has been the love and support from my audience. It is always a nice feeling when you get to know that so many people have liked your work.

On your path to becoming a director, what were your biggest challenges?

Chayanika: Well, my career path has certainly not been one without setbacks. I would say having to prove myself and prove that I can do good work at every step of the way was challenging. Hard work and determination are the values I stand by when it comes to my work.

What would you say are the main limitations in the television industry?

Chayanika: I think low budgets are the biggest limitations. People are putting out plenty of television shows, but the budgets are not increasing.

What would you like to say about being part of The Directors' Guild?

Chayanika: I am immensely happy with the kind of work we are doing at The Directors' Guild. Before this, there was not really a workplace for us television directors. I think it has helped us find a foothold in the industry. We have also been able to lower costs for outdoor shoots, like in Cox's Bazar.

What are your plans for the future?

Chayanika: I am preparing to step into the world of cinema. I want to focus on films reflecting Bangladesh's culture, family-friendly films, and love stories. I hope to start working on a film this year.
