Carly Rae Jepsen lands iconic role in Grease: Live

Pop star Carly Rae Jepsen has been tapped to play the iconic role of Pink Lady Frenchy for “Grease: Live”, the network announced Wednesday. Also joining the cast of the live musical is “You're the Worst” breakout Kether Donohue, who is set as Pink Lady Jan, while David Del Rio will play T-Bird Putzie.

Grammy nominee Jessie J will open the live event, set for January 31, with a new version of the Barry Gibb's “Grease (Is the Word)” that was featured in the opening title sequence of the 1978 film, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.

Choreographer Zach Woodlee (“Glee”, “Annie”) has also joined the production, which is exec produced by Marc Platt. Thomas Kail will stage direct while Alex Rudzinski will helm for TV. Broadway writers Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins will pen the live TV adaptation, produced by Paramount Television.

Jepsen, whose hits include “Call Me Maybe” and “I Really Like You”, takes on the role played by Didi Conn in the movie. Donohue steps into the part originated by Jamie Donnelly, while Del Rio takes over the part from Kelly Ward.

“Graceland” star Aaron Tveit will play Danny Zuko while Julianne Hough is set as Sandy. The cast includes Vanessa Hudgens as bad girl Rizzo, Keke Palmer as Pink Lady Marty Maraschino and Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie.
