Happy Birthday Babita!

Congratulations and celebrations

July 30 marks the birthday of celebrated actress Babita. Having performed in more than 300 films through the decades, the internationally acclaimed actress is still going strong. Today the actress shares her birthday plans with The Daily Star.

How do you plan to celebrate your birthday?

Babita: I do not have any special plans. I am going to stay at home, but some children from the organisation---Distressed Children and Infants International (DCI), will visit me and they are planning to put up a little cultural show here at my home, which I am looking forward to.

What was the best birthday gift you received in your childhood?

Babita: In our house we used to have English newspapers, which was uncommon in other households at the time. My interest in reading them caught my father's attention. So, on my birthday he gave me a dictionary with a handwritten note as a birthday present. That day my joy knew no bounds. I still have the dictionary.

Do you have any special birthday memories while on the sets?

Babita: After I started working in the industry, I had the opportunity to celebrate my birthday many times during filming. I remember when the film “Raater Por Din” was released; it was doing great commercially, and close to my birthday. So I decided to celebrate at Hotel Purbani and invited everyone from the industry. It was a great party and to everyone's surprise actor Zafar Iqbal sang there.

Can you share with us about your birthday celebrations abroad?

Babita: Oh yes! Most of the time the opportunity arose while I had to work on a film, or was travelling with my family. Last year, I was in Canada with my son.

Who is usually the first to wish you?

Babita: My son is always the first, after him it's always my sisters Suchanda and Champa, and my other family members. Then there are a lot of people from the industry who wish me.
