Finding comfort in art

Nuzhat Tabassum, popularly known as Nuzart on social media, is an artist who, as she claims, was never into art. However, having a degree in Electrical Engineering, she always felt stranded in a systematic world and it was art that gave her comfort. She started with a street art project called the Invisibellas, which focus on women.

Nuzhat's first memory of art is a water-colour painting of a landscape. She scrutinised the brush strokes of the painting and wondered how it all came into being. Her paintings usually do not have real elements. Instead, they portray a world that comes to life from the depth of her soul. The non-traditional art form and celebration of bold colours make her stand out. Her signature – leaf mandala design -- is a favourite amongst many.

She has participated in several exhibitions, festivals and art meet-ups. She has been a part of the Milkshake Collective where a bunch of new artists get together to make and sell art. She worked as an organiser and artist for ATYA: Longitude Latitude 7 – yet another platform for young artists.

Nuzhat has also done several murals for cafes, offices, homes and more. According to her, she went out of her comfort zone to give Jatra Biroti, a podium for singers, artists and other young talents, a makeover. Talking about accomplishments, she says, “My achievements came into fruition when my artwork made my father smile and my mother saw the truth in my way of life through art.”

Moving forward, she plans for Nuzart to expand its line of merchandise and eventually have an outlet of her own. She is also preparing for her first solo exhibition which will hopefully take place by the end of this year.
