Remembering Tareque Masud and Mishuk Munier
Memorial programme and film screening at BSA
Marking the sixth death anniversary of renowned filmmaker Tareque Masud, cinematographer Mishuk Munier and three other film production crews, Moviyana Film Society and Tareque Masud Memorial Trust in association with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) will jointly arrange a memorial programme today at 5pm at the Seminar Room of National Theatre Hall of BSA.
The programme will begin with the screening of Tareque Masud's documentary film “Adam Surat” followed by the screening of “Phera”, a documentary film on Tareque Masud's life, directed by Prasun Rahman, at 6pm. The lighting of mongolprodip in memory of the departed will take place at 6:40pm. Directed by Prasun Rahman, a special visual “August-er Aricha Road”, as homage to the deceased, will be screened at 7pm. Later, the memorial programme including a discussion and “Tareque Masud Memorial Speech 2017” will be held.
Eminent theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar, renowned cultural personality and filmmaker Nasiruddin Yousuff and noted filmmaker Morshedul Islam will speak at the programme. Belayet Hossain Mamun, president of Moviyana Film Society, will deliver the welcome address while architect Lailun Nahar Swemi, president of the Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh, will preside over the programme.
The organisers have been organising “Tareque Masud Memorial Speech” since 2014. This year filmmaker Prasun Rahman will deliver the speech on the title “Tareque Masud-er Chalachchitra O Tareque Masud Paath Ebong Puno:paath”. Filmmaker Nurul Alam Atique, poet-journalist Sajjad Sharif and Professor Biren Das Sharma, a film teacher at India's Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, delivered the speech in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.
Renowned filmmaker Tareque Masud, media personality Ashfaque Munier Mishuk popularly known as Mishuk Munier, and their film production crew -- Wasim, Jamal and microbus driver Mostafizur Rahman -- died in a fatal road crash on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Joka under Ghior upazila in Manikganj on August 13, 2011.
Tareque's wife Catherine Masud, painter Dhali Al Mamun, his wife Dilara Begum Jolly and film production staff Saidul Islam were injured in the accident.
The team was on its way to meet the then Manikganj deputy commissioner for permission to shoot for Tareque's film project “Kagojer Phool” after visiting a shooting spot at Saljana village in Shibalaya upazila of the district.
