Star Cineplex may remain at Bashundhara City Mall

Star Cineplex may continue its operation at the Bashundhara City shopping mall after possibility of renewal of its agreement with the mall authorities has reportedly emerged.

Earlier on September 1, Star Cineplex announced the end of its journey with Bashundhara City and closure of its six theatres at the mall, following termination of its deal with the mall authorities.

Star Cineplex authority is expected to formally announce continuation of operation at the Bashundhara City mall tomorrow, according to sources.

"I had a talk with Star Cineplex Chairman Mahboob Rahman today and we came to know that Star Cineplex is not going to close operations at Bashundhara City. New agreement between the two parties is underway to this end," said Khorshed Alam Khashru, president of Bangladesh Film Producers' Association.

"We cannot confirm anything at this moment but we hope to inform everything in detail tomorrow," said Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, senior manager (media and marketing) of Star Cineplex.

Star Cineplex was launched in 2004 at Bashundhara City shopping mall on Dhaka's Panthapath.

It later also launched new outlets at Shimanto Square in Dhanmondi and SK Tower at Mohakhali.

Another new outlet is awaiting inauguration at Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur.
