“Amar Bondhu Rashed”, the Morshedul Islam-directed adolescent film set during the Liberation War, was screened at various educational institutes in Pabna over the last month, as part of Independence Day observances in the district.

District police administration, along with local cultural organisation Pathshala organised the screeningsat 30 educational institutions in nine upazilas of the district.

Thousands of school children of Pabna were inspired by the heroic role of Rashed in the month long film screenings in schools.

Rashed was a mere school boy but had the indomitable will to free the country from its oppressors. He threw aside his books and organised school boys to support the Freedom Fighters. He also took part in different operations; at one stage of the Liberation War he was captured by the Razakars and embraced martyrdom.

“Children and schoolboys played a vital role in many places during the nine-month Liberation War. The film 'Amar Bondhu Rashed' highlighted the heroic role of these young boys. Through the film, the school boys imbibed the spirit of the Liberation War,” said Pabna Police Superintendent Jihadul Kabir in a discussion held before one of the screenings.

“Rashed's bravery greatly motivated school children,” said Shahnaz Parvin, headmaster of Krishnapur Government Girls School at the event.
