Charity painting exhibition for Art Fest 2020 underway at Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts
A painting exhibition by eminent artists of Bangladesh was inaugurated at Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts, recently. The exhibition, which will run till January 27, is a charity event. The revenues generated from the sale of the exhibited works will go towards organising the Art Fest 2020, Nilphamari.
For the past few years, the Art Fest, alternatively known as Charukola Utshab, has been organised at a location outside Dhaka, involving different groups of people, with a focus on school children and the youth. Charukola Utshab aims to create an interchange of art practices between the city life and the country life outside the metropolitan. The festival functions largely as an art camp, with many guidelines and teachings provided to the young people interested in art. Different topics surrounding social issues and causes, such as the environment and nature, are highlighted in the themes of the workshops. Additionally, cultural programmes, an arts and crafts fair and sightseeing walks are also scheduled during the event.
Along with the children, university art students and renowned artists also take part in the events and create artworks in an interactive environment. Since this initiative is seen as a one with many spillover benefits, especially with respect to engaging the youth in arts and culture of our country while keeping them immersed in positive activities, prominent artists have come together to help raise funds in order to organise yet another successful festival.
The paintings displayed in the ongoing exhibition portray a variety of styles, media and subjects. A wide array of emotions swirl through the depictions of various realities of the artists. Canvases swathed in intricate abstract acrylic textures are hung alongside nature landscapes. Some of the paintings include words and poetry inscribed in decorative patterns. Many of the paintings focus on feminine figures, with regards to their significance and relation to nature and family.
Though the paintings by established artists have little in common, be it in styles, subjects or depicted moods, the exhibition presents itself unitedly in the collective goal to not only further the arts within an exclusive circle, but to promote the arts in a broader sense that can impact people in different parts of the country. The financial support as well as the ideological encouragement provided by the senior artists of Bangladesh for the Art Fest will surely go a long way in ensuring a rich and vibrant artistic and cultural landscape for the youth and for our future.
