A two-day long photo exhibition titled 7th AUW Photo Carnival 2019 concluded at Asian University for Women (AUW) in the port city on Saturday.

Around ten thousand participants across the globe sent their photos in November last year, out of which 70 photographs have been selected through thorough scrutiny for five months, and were exhibited in the programme.

Photographs were showcased in three sections- single photography, mobile photography and photo stories, while there were seven sub categories- street, landscape, portrait, macro, wildlife, silhouette and conceptual.

A Musical adda followed the first day of the exhibition that began on Friday morning and remained open till 6 pm.

Shoeb Faruquee, owner of Photo Bank Gallery Chittagong, the inaugural speaker at the programme, said that photography is a medium that makes moments everlasting.

“A picture is worth a thousand words. AUW Photographic Club team have been proving that. This International photography Carnival is creating a bridge between the photographers of Bangladesh and other countries,” he said.

The exhibition was open from 10 am to 5:30 pm on the second day. Dr Nirmala Rao, Vice Chancellor of AUW was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

Among the 70 photographers, three were awarded for their excellent lens-work during the closing ceremony at Hotel Peninsula. The judging panel included Prito Reza, photographer and brand ambassador of Fujifilm, Jannatul Mawa, Lecturer at Pathshala South Asian Media Academy, and Saud Al Faisal, Founder of Through the Lens Bangladesh.

AUW photography club was established in 2009. “The club members, coming from 15 different countries, have been proving the limitless boundary of photography since then,” said Rodela Hasan, one of the organisers at the carnival.
