Jahangir Hossain's “Life in Mirror” opens at DD Gallery

Guests inaugurate the exhibition.

DD Gallery has organised a solo art exhibition titled “Life in Mirror” by noted artist Jahangir Hossain at Saltz, Gulshan in Dhaka. The 12th solo show by the artist was inaugurated on March 30.

The exhibition showcases 54 paintings, especially western figurative ones, by the artist. The western figurative style of Jahangir Hossain was mainly inspired from the Oxford Gallery in England. Through his art he aims to spread a single message: “We need to love in order to survive.”

A contemporary artist, Hossain was born in Dhaka in 1964. He has been active in the art field since 1982. He completed his MFA from the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.

Hossain follows western-style modern painting and has so far held a number of solo and group exhibitions both at home and abroad. Recently he joined at the Multiple Expression with Indian Arts with MF Husain's base group show at Taj Hotel, London and two group shows with renowned Indian artists at Birla Museum, London and Nehru Centre, London.

Hossain has taken part in many international art biennales held in Europe. He received an award at the London Art Biennale in 2017. His artwork has been selected and published at the First Berlin Art Book 2018.

Giuseppe Semenza, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Italy, attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest. Joao Tabajara de Oliveira Junior, Ambassador of Brazil in Dhaka and Sidel Bleken, Norwegian Ambassador in Dhaka, were present as special guests. Rizwan Bin Farouq, Chairman of DD Gallery, was present at the opening ceremony.

The exhibition remains open from 12 noon to 9 pm daily until April 13.
