A VISUAL FEAST FROM THE FAR EAST

A performing arts troupe from China's Sichuan province held a houseful audience captive on Saturday at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, with their array of traditional Chinese performing arts. The Bangaldesh China Cultural Economic Center organised the event along with the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, where the performers displayed one mesmerizing performance after another in dance, acrobatics, contortion, hand shadow dance, puppetry, and a magical changing face masks (Bian lian) that is very much a signature Sichuan performance art form. The event also included a photography exhibit outside the auditorium featuring the natural beauty, heritage and culture of Sichuan. Chinese ambassador to Dhaka Ma Mingquing and Bangladesh's tourisn and civil aviation minister Rashed Khan Menon were distinguished guests at the event.
