Tagore, Nazrul celebrated in Mymensingh

Artistes of Sandipon Sangskritik Sangstha, a leading cultural group of the town, celebrated the birth anniversaries of Tagore and Nazrul at the Muslim Institute recently. This was the 92nd session of the group.

Artistes Swapon Basak, Masud Rana, Sumi Dey, Shawkat Ali, Jajabor Bablu, Priyanka Karmaker, Asish Sarker and Samir Sarker rendered popular songs of the bards including -- “Esho Shyamolo Sundoro”, “Majhe Majhe Tobo Dekha Pai”, “Trishito Akash Ka(n)pere”, “Jago Anoshan Bandi” and “Abar Bhalobahsar Shad Jage” , to name a few.

Meanwhile, “Badol Borishone”, a play based on a short story by Kazi Nazrul Islam, was staged at Mymensingh town's Advocate Tareq Smriti auditorium this past week.

Artistes of Theatre and Performance Studies Department of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKNIU) staged the play.

Adapted and directed by Nusrat Jahan Shimu, the play depicts the present social structure where the views of young minds are never taken into count.

Nazrul in his short story skillfully depicted the beauty of the inner mind of human beings, a necessity for a peaceful society, said Nusrat Jahan.

The cast of the play were Yusuf Monsur, Sumaiya Hashmi, Bipasha Saha, Didarul Haque, Papiya Singh, Sajal Kumar Bhowmik and others.

Earlier, a discussion was held where Shahadat Hossain Khan Hilu, secretary of Bahurupi Natya Sangstha; Syed Mamun Reza, head of Theatre and Performance Studies Department at JKKNIU; Dr Horisankar Das, Nusrat Sharmin and Dr HA Golandaj spoke.
