Tagore-Nazrul brought alive on flute

Marking the birth anniversaries of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, Government Music College arranged a musical soiree featuring dance and recitation at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on June 14.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor attended the event as chief guest while Professor Shameema Parveen, principal of the college presided over the programme, held at the National Theatre Hall.

Aside from songs, recitation and dance, the melody of the flute appeared in every song performed at the soiree.

As the artistes were taking the stage, “Anjali Loho Mor” was playing in the background. Then, the soiree began with “Bajao Amarey Bajao”.

The repertoire of choral songs included “Oder Sathey Melao”, “Poobali Poboney Banshi”, “Bojre Tomar Bajey Banshi”, “Oi Ranga Matir Poth-e Lo” and “Poddar Dheu Rey”.

Artistes of Nrityanandan danced to “Gahano Kusuma Kunja Majhey”, choreographed by Sharmila Banerjee. Among the soloist singers Fakir Shahidul Islam Suman rendered Nazrul Sangeet “Sur-e O Banir Mala Diye”, Kushal Roy rendered Tagore song “Ami Tomar Shongey”, Urbee Shome presented Nazrul's “Gagoney Krishna Megh” and Promila performed Tagore's “Dariye Achho Tumi Amar”.
