Representing Bangladesh in Santiniketan

International students of Visva-Bharati University will now get more insights about Bangladesh from the newly inaugurated library and museum in Bangladesh Bhavan. Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh inaugurated the structures on their return from Santiniketan. Bangladesh intends to hold responsibility of the museum and the library for its significance to research work. As the confustion regarding the responsibility remains unresolved, Visva-Bharati University has not officially been given the charge of the Bangladesh Bhavan.

The Vice Chancellor of Visva-Bharati University, Sabuj Kali Sen had told The Daily Star on Thursday that they have not yet received the official handover. However the Head of Deputy Chancery of Kolkata Deputy High Commission, BM Jamal Hossain said that the officials of Visva-Bharati University would take the decision.  He also admitted that they would like to take the charge of the museum and the library.

The museum is now house to many rare objects. Among them is a replica of a boat used by Rabindranath Tagore, a number of statues of Buddha, Nakshikantha and more. Pictures of historical places, local objects which are part of Bangladeshi heritage have also been placed in the museum. The wall of the museum also has a picture called Muktijuddhokalin Padajatra: Santiniketan Adhyay.

The library has more than ten thousand books. Books of eminent writers like Professor Anisuzzaman and Dr Selina Hossain have been archived in the library as well.
