Poetry festival in Tangail concludes

A three-day Bangla poetry festival in Tangail concluded on Saturday.

The fourth edition of the festival began in the town's Shaheed Smrity Pouro Udyan on Thursday where around 300 poets and authors from different parts of Bangladesh, and some 55 poets from different states in India participated. Tangail Public Library organised the festival.

On the concluding day, poets recited poetry in three sessions.

Chaired by poet Alamgir Reza Chowdhury, Kajal Chakrabarti from West Bengal attended as the chief guest in the first session.

In the second session with poet Shakil Ahmed in the chair, poet Golam Kibria Pinu was the chief guest.

With poet Salem Suleri in the chair, poet Al Mujahidi attended as the chief guest in the third session.

Around 100 poets from Bangladesh and India recited their poetry in the three sessions. The closing session was attended by Tangail Deputy Commissioner and President of Tangail Public Library Khan Mohammad Nurul Amin in the chair, with poet and former principal secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury as the chief guest.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner M Bazlul Karim Chowdhury and Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan attended the closing function as special guests. A book by prominent cultural activist Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruk titled “Life and Works” was launched in this session. Besides the guests, poet Bulbul Khan Mahbub, poet Al Mujahidi, poets from West Bengal Moni Shankar Roy, Shayamol Kanti Das and Partha Sarthi Gayen took part in the discussion about the work.

Poets Bimol Guho and Faruk Mahmud of Bangladesh, poet Tapan Bandhapadhy and author Nolini Bera of India were given literary awards for their work.
