National Film Awards '15 ceremony today

Bangabandhu International Conference Center will see an august gathering of members of the country's film fraternity today, as the 2015 National Film Awards will be handed out there in a grand ceremony today at 4:30pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will grace the occasion as chief guest, with the programme presided over by the Minister of Information, Hasanul Haq Inu.

Actors Chanchal Chowdhury and Purnima will be the anchors of the event, while noted actors of the industry including Riaz, Popy, Ferdous, Apu Biswas, Nipun, Bappi, Zayed Khan, Irin and more will present various performances. The event will honour celebrated actor Shabana and noted singer Ferdousi Rahman with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other accolades include the Best Actor Award to Shakib Khan and Mahfuz Ahmed for their performances in “Aro Bhalobashbo Tomai” and “Zero Degree”, respectively.  Jaya Ahsan will walk away with the Best Actress Award for her role in “Zero Degree.”

To host such a prestigious event would present a daunting challenge to even the most seasoned artiste, but Chanchal Chowdhury is ever ready. “I have received many offers to host programmes before, but never accepted,” he said. “I have agreed to this for two reasons; this is the most prestigious award ceremony for the national entertainment industry, and secondly it would be an honour to host with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh present as the chief guest. This is definitely one of the biggest highlights of my career.”

Actor Purnima also expressed similar sentiments. “I am elated to be given this opportunity, and I hope I do justice in front of the honourable Prime Minister.”
