National Children's Day celebrated in Chittagong

Shishumela, a children's organisation from Chittagong, celebrated National Children's Day by awarding seven dignitaries for their contribution to socio-cultural sphere on Saturday evening in the port city on Sunday.

The organisation also celebrated its third anniversary through the programme at Dr. Khastagir Government Girls' High School ground.

The awardees were Kamrun Malek, former president of Chittagong Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industries; Journalist Raisul Huq Bahar; Gono Sangeet artiste Ashok Sengupta; Professor Sudipta Deb of BGC Trust University; Councillor Shaibal Das Sumon; Headmaster of Dr. Khastagir Government Girls' High School Hasmat Jahan and President of Chittagong Decorators' Owners' Association Sahab Uddin.

“We awarded the personalities for their contribution to different social and cultural practices in Chittagong. Shishumela has always been bolstering such effort and we hope to continue this venture,” said Ratnakar Das Tunu, member Secretary of the organisation.

“It is always important to present some role models before the children of current generation. This will act as an inspiration to them,” he added.  

The programme was inaugurated by AQM Sirajul Haque, President of Khelaghor Chittagong Mohanagar unit while Mafizur Rahman, Chairman of the organising committee chaired the programme.

As Children's Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Bangabadhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman -- speakers at the programme hoped that the children in the audience would prepare themselves as worthy citizens of the country.

A cultural programme followed an award giving ceremony.
