Kali O Kalam launched in Kolkata

Bangladesh's popular art and literary magazine “Kali O Kalam” started its journey from Kolkata recently. The magazine, which is in its 12th year of publication in Bangladesh, will regularly be published from Kolkata as well from now on. It is the first magazine to be published from Dhaka and Kolkata simultaneously.

Though it hit the newsstand in Kolkata in July this year, the official launching ceremony was held at Kalamandir, Kolkata on September 26. Poet Shankha Ghosh and Nirendranath Chakrabarty, editor of the Indian edition of “Kali O Kalam” launched the fifth edition of magazine through lighting candles.

Abul Hasnat, editor of the Dhaka edition of “Kali O Kalam”; Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman; chairman of the editorial board of the magazine, noted Indian writer Shirshendu Mukherjee, and Abul Khair, publisher of the Dhaka edition of the magazine and Chairman of Bengal Foundation were present at the launching ceremony.

Among others, Suchisree Ray, publisher of the Indian edition of the magazine; Pallabi Ganguly, managing director of Barota Publications, India;  and Luva Nahid Choudhury, managing director of ICE also attended the launching ceremony.

Professor Anisuzzaman said, “As the magazine embarks on a new journey, its aim will be to win the heart of Indian readers.”

Nirendranath Chakrabarty said, “Readers in Kolkata needed such a magazine and I hope 'Kali O Kalam' will be able to do that.”

Abul Hasnat said, “Over the last 11 and half years, we have developed such a characteristic of the magazine that it will be able to take a place in the readers' hearts.”

The inauguration ceremony was marked by a remarkable jugalbandi of poetry and Sarod recitals by poet Joy Goswami and Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar. Later, renowned Tagore artiste Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya performed at the event.
