Int'l Mother Language Day observed in Kathmandu

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu observed Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day on February 21 with solemnity and pageantry. A day-long programme to commemorate the day began with the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast at the Chancery by the Ambassador in the morning, says a press release.

In the evening, a cultural programme was organised, attended by the Ambassadors and other diplomats in Kathmandu, senior Nepalese dignitaries, civil society members, representatives from the Nepalese print and electronic media, officials of the embassy and SAARC secretariat, and expatriate Bangladeshis.

The cultural programme featured a musical performance by Bangladeshi artistes Priyanka Gope and Suman Majumder who rendered several Bangla patriotic songs which were greatly appreciated by the audience. Iftekhar Alam on tabla and Robins Chowdhury on keyboard accompanied the singers. Local Nepalese cultural troupes and soloists also performed songs in Nepalese.

The programme concluded with a short speech on February 21 by the Ambassador Mashfee Binte Shams.
