Sishu Mela, a children's organisation, chalked out elaborate programmes to welcome Bangla New Year in Chittagong city.

The programme, titled “Esho Maati Nobo Anonde” held at Dr Khastagir Government High School in Chittagong city, was organised and participated by children on April 14.

Children presented chorus songs, dance, recitation, painting and more during the daylong programme.

The programme was addressed by organising committee chairman and ward councilor Shoybal Das Sumon, convener Ratnakar Das Tunu and member secretary Rubel Das Prince.

Shoybal Das Sumon, who presided over the programme said that it would be ideal if children could preserve their culture and tradition as they grew up.

Rubel Das Prince said the new generation is becoming far removed from Bangladesh's rich heritage and culture. The recent programme was a step in the right direction, he added.
