Nrityajog, the Bangladesh Chapter of World Dance Alliance, organised a weeklong (July 22-28) Chhau and contemporary dance workshop in cooperation with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), facilitated by Delhi-based dancer Santosh Nair. A dance recital was held at the end of the workshop on July 28 at the Music and Dance Centre auditorium of BSA, where the 65 participants from across the country and Santosh Nair himself performed.

Thespian Ramendu Majumdar, Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky, Santosh Nair, noted Bangladeshi dancers Amanul Haque, Sharmila Banerjee and Majfuzur Rahman, General Secretary of Bangladesh Nritya Shilpi Sangstha were present at the show.

Santosh Nair initially directed a few demonstrative performances where the participating dancers took part. He later performed “Nataraj”, the God of dance, following Chhau dance style. The guru also performed another piece called “Yodha” that focused on the war dance of Eastern India. Workshop participants performed simultaneously with Santosh Nair. Their weeklong learning was conspicuously visible in their performances. The demonstration of Chhau dance set on a Bangla song “Ami Takdum Takdum Bajai Bangladesh-er Dhol” was commendable. Prior to the performances, organisers, screened a documentary titled “The Journey”, shedding light on the life and works of Santosh Nair.
