Celebrating Sayed Lutful Haque

Sayed Lutful Haque's contribution to the arts is immense not only as a painter and illustrator, but also as a journalist and researcher. On May 31, prominent artists, poets and writers had the opportunity to explore the works of Sayed Lutful Haque at a discussion hosted by Ghashful, a media organisation.

The discussion, which took place in the conference lounge of National Press Club, began with a tribute to the late Belal Chaudhuri. Rabia Sultana Panna recited a poem by Belal Chaudhuri and Poet Mina Mashrafe recited her own poem dedicated to him. 

The discussion brought to light that in an article by Bilu Kabir, the late poet was quoted saying that Sayed Lutful Haque, in every step of his career proved his intelligence and earned sincere respect from artists, journalists, cultural activists and intellectuals from all over the country. Sayed Lutful Haque was a Freedom Fighter as well. Many books that he wrote were also discussed at the event. Journalist Kamal Lohani, artist Rafiqun Nabi, Monirul islam, Poet Rabiul Husain, Poet Habibullah Siraji, Professor Masuda M. Rashid Chowdhury, Nisar Hossain, Dr Shamsul Arefeen, Poet Hasan Hafiz, Syed Zakir Hossain and Toukir Hossain were part of the discussion.

Ata Sarker, founder of Ghashful, says, “People nowadays show their enthusiasm for arts, but many do not know its history in Bangladesh. Through this discussion, we hope to inspire people to know more about Bangladesh's role in the arts.”
