Bikkhon pays tribute to Quadri

Bikkhon, a weekly study circle of Mymensingh Sahitya Sangsad dedicated its 1695th edition to poet Shahid Quadri.

Quadri, born on August 14 in 1942 in Kolkata of India, died on 28 August this year at 74. The prominent Bangladeshi poet and writer who introduced a new angle in Bangla Literature, won Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1973 and Ekushey Padak in 2011 for his outstanding contribution in this field. 

Marking its 33rd founding anniversary, Bikkhon organised a discussion at its office on the bank of Old Brahmaputra River in the town Friday morning. 

The programme also included poetry recitation and unveiling of monthly publication of the group, “Swarachito”.

Dr Jebunnesa Rina, Jannatun Nahar Nupur, Masuda Eka, Shaheed Amini Rumi, M Rabiul Islam, Ashik Chowdhury and Sarker Aziz took part in poetry recitation, among others.

Syed Nurul Islam, police superintendent of Mymensingh was the chief guest at the discussion. Poets Shamsul Fayez, Farid Ahmed Dulal, Mymensingh Sahitya Sangsad's president; its secretary  Yazdani Quraishay Kajal, Salim Hasan and Sajal Quraishy took part in the discussion.

There is no alternative of reading for making enlightened people and the society as well, the speakers also said.
