“Understanding Folk and Tribal Dance” held

The sixth chapter of “Understanding Dance with Sharmila Banerjee”, on Folk and Tribal Dance was held the Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct on Tuesday. Through lectures and demonstrations complimented by audio-visual content, various forms of Folk and Tribal dances from Bangladesh and neighbouring West Bengal (India) were discussed at the event. 

The programme featured spirited performances of a variety of folk dances such as Pata nach, Paik nach, Mayurbhanj Chhau, Tripura, Jum nach and Raibenshe. Sharmila Banerjee also presented a clear and informative introduction to the history and evolution of folk and tribal dance forms in Bangladesh. 

A number of dancers including Afsana Islam, Sudeshna Swayamprabha, Mehraj Haque Tushar, Ira Bala, Krishna Roy, Falguni Sen, Shafiqul Islam, Farhad Ahmed Shamim, Jasimuddin, Chandra Tripura and Jhilik Chakma performed at the event.
